Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Can Still Access Day-One Releases for Less Than $30 Monthly

Following the company's recent declaration of an extensive overhaul of its Game Pass tiers, the tech giant has explained what these changes signify for gamers who currently hold an Xbox Game Pass for Console active. According to Xbox, subscribers who presently maintains a grandfathered Console subscription with recurring payments enabled will not be affected by the updated cost changes.

Latest Updates to Xbox Game Pass Tiers

Earlier this week, Xbox announced that its top-tier plan will now cost $29.99 per month, a decision that sparked debate among subscribers. This change accompanies rebranded tiers—Essential and Premium—which modify the available features and do not include new titles at launch. The move followed another adjustment in 2024, which phased out the Console plan in favor of Standard and Core levels. Back then, Xbox permitted current Console subscribers to retain their membership at the same price of $11 per month with full benefits, including access to day-one releases.

Subscribers who are presently enrolled in the Console plan and have recurring billing enabled can continue their membership,” an Xbox spokesperson stated. “If users turn off automatic payment renewal, or their subscription lapses, they will need to choose between Essential, Premium, Ultimate or PC Game Pass plans when resubscribing.”

Perks and Pricing Stay the Same

The perks and monthly fee of the Console plan will remain the same, according to Xbox: “Day one games are accessible with Game Pass Ultimate and PC plans, as well as for members who still have an current Game Pass for Console. Gamers who are presently enrolled in Xbox Game Pass for Console and have recurring billing enabled can keep their membership at $10.99/month.”

When asked, an Xbox spokesperson declined to specify for what duration grandfathered Console plans will remain active for existing members.

How to Check If You Are On a Legacy Subscription

  • Go to the Game Pass website and sign in with your Xbox account.
  • Select your profile name in the upper-right section of the page once logged in.
  • Click on “My Microsoft Account.”
  • If you find “Console subscription” listed as an current plan, you can still access new releases for $11 a month as long as automatic billing are turned on.

Be sure to verify if you hold this golden ticket before canceling your subscription, as it will be impossible to rejoin the plan once you opt out.
