Female Suspect Taken into Custody After Alleged Gas Supply Sabotage at Two Sydney Medical Facilities

A female individual is now in police custody following medical gas supplies reportedly tampered with at a pair of Sydney-area hospitals.

Event Overview

The Sutherland medical facility in southern Sydney lost critical gas supplies on Tuesday morning, requiring them to switch to portable oxygen and air as an emergency measure, as stated by health officials.

"The cause of the loss of gases is alleged to be deliberate sabotage," authorities declared.

They further emphasized that "{To reportedly commit such acts represents extreme recklessness. It could have been disastrous outcomes."

Law Enforcement Response

Law enforcement confirmed receiving reports of "alleged vandalism at two hospitals in the Caringbah area." It's understood that the other facility was a local private medical center.

Police alleged a female in her forties gained access of a medical facility on Kareena Road premises at around 12:20 AM on Tuesday and "cut both the water and gas mains, before activating fire hoses."

They further alleged that at about early morning, "the woman accessed the property of another hospital on Kareena Road ... and allegedly deactivated the gas main."

The individual was apprehended in the Miranda area at about 4 AM on Tuesday for violating bail conditions, police confirmed.

Hospital Response

Medical authorities stated that medical gas supplies were restored by hospital teams and local health district "in about two hours time."

"I want to assure the public patient care was not affected to patient care and that the facility has resumed normal operations according to standard procedures," authorities stated.

Officials further noted that "Access to gas systems in public medical facilities is limited to authorized personnel. An investigation will examine the situation to see what improvements can be put in place."

Authorities revealed that the suspect reportedly scaled a wall at the medical facility and entered to a restricted area.
